Phasing Out Of The Report 190/191 Engineering Studies N1 – N3 Programmes

In September 2021 the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation approved the phase out of the remaining Report 190/191 Engineering Studies N1-N3 programmes and the establishment of a Phase Out Task Team. This approval came after a process of consultation with various stakeholders including analysis of public comments which were sought through a Government Notice gazetted and published in November 2020 (Government Gazette 43872, Notice No. 1177). Gazette number 43872 indicates proposed dates for the phase out of the programme, beginning in 2022. However, the dates have been indicated as not feasible due to delays in some processes that need to be undertaken. New dates for implementation of the phase out of the Report 190/191 Engineering Studies N1- N3 programmes will be communicated as soon as the planning process is complete, and the actual date is gazetted.

Private colleges are encouraged to start considering scaling down enrolments on Report 190/191 Engineering Studies N1 – N3 programmes in preparation for the imminent phase out. Accreditation to offer the Report 190/191 Engineering Studies N1 – N3 Engineering Studies programmes will lapse in line with the phase out of the programmes. Applicants need to take that into account when engaging in the accreditation process, as there will be no refund of fees paid where services have been rendered before the Report 190/191 Engineering Studies N1 – N3 programmes are phased out.
