Governance & Office of the CEO
GOCEO consists of two units, namely, Public Relations and Communications, and Strategy and Governance units, which report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
These units are responsible for:
Public Relations and Communications is responsible for:
✓ manage and oversee the flow of key organisational messages (mandate, strategy, and services) that effectively promote the image of the Umalusi brand to all its internal and external stakeholders;
The Strategy and Governance Unit is responsible to:
✓ provide good corporate governance;
✓ support Council;
✓ manage the Office of the CEO;
✓ coordinate risk management;
✓ manage performance information; and
✓ facilitate strategy development.

The Executive Management is responsible for implementation of Umalusi Council`s mandate, which includes, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, financial and risk management, HR management, quarterly and annual reporting, the secretariat function of the Council, and PR and Communications.
Statistical Information and Research
The SIR Unit conducts research related to the General and Further Education and Training Qualifications Framework and related issues with the purpose of informing Umalusi Council`s professional work and organisational strategy.
The unit publishes research reports, organises seminars, conferences and public events to stimulate public debate on critical issues in education and training.
The unit further oversees the Council`s resource centre and provides academic capacity building to staff.
A Research Forum consisting of leading educational academics and researchers guides and supports the work of the unit. Guidance is provided in respect of the following:
✓ Conceptualisation of the research agenda
✓ Design of research projects
✓ Evaluation of the outcomes / findings of research

Evaluation and Accreditation Unit
The E&A unit quality assures provision through an accreditation process.
The unit accredits and monitors private providers of education and training to offer qualifications on the General and Further Education and Training Qualifications Framework. These include:
✓ Independent schools
✓ Private Further Education and Training Colleges
✓ Private Adult Education and Training Centres

Accreditation is a status granted to a private provider at the end of a quality assurance process and attests to the quality of provision offered.
Contact usThe unit also accredits private assessment bodies to assess qualifications on the General and Further Education and Training Qualifications Framework, and monitors and reports on the quality of assessment provided by the public assessment system.

Quality Assurance of Assessment Units
The main functions of the two quality assurance of assessment units, School Qualifications [QAA-SQ] and Post School Qualifications [QAA-PSQ], are to set standards for assessment of qualifications on the General and Further Education and Training Qualifications Framework and to ensure that assessment for certification in schools, TVET Colleges and Adult Education and Training Centres is of the required standard.
This is achieved through the following processes:
✓ Development and implementation of assessment policies & directives;
✓ Moderation of the standards of examination papers;
✓ Moderation of the standards of internal assessment;
✓ Monitoring the administration of national examinations & marking processes;
✓ Moderation of the standard of marking;
✓ Monitoring and verification of resulting;
✓ Standardisation of results.

Qualifications, Curriculum & Certification Unit
The QCC unit is responsible for the development and management of the General and Further Education and Training Qualifications Sub-Framework which forms part of the National Qualifications Framework, and for the certification of learner attainment.
The Unit carries out the following functions:
✓ Develops and implements policy in respect of the General and Further
Education and Training Qualifications Sub-Framework;
✓ Ensures the development of new qualifications and their underpinning curricula;
✓ Evaluates new and reviewed qualifications and curricula;
✓ Through the Qualifications Standards Committee of Council it recommends
qualifications for approval by Council and for registration on the NQF by the
South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA);
✓ Certifies qualifications on the General and Further Education and Training
Qualifications Sub-Framework
✓ Verifies qualifications certified by Umalusi.
